The new year brings exiting opportunities! In particular in 2017 a constant challenge to participating in Telehealth for many multi-disciplinary practices was concerns about licensure in the state where a patient receiving the Telehealth services resides.
Although Florida has not joined the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, it has joined the Nursing Licensure Compact. The effective date is just around the corner. On January 19, 2018 for the first time Nurses in Florida will be able to apply to convert their Florida license to a Multi-State license through the Nursing Licensure Compact. Final rules were recently adopted by the Nursing Licensure Commission on December 12, 2017. The Nurse Practice Act, Section 464.0095, Florida Statutes sets forth the requirements under Florida law specific to the Nurse Licensure Compact.
More information about how Registered Nurses or Licensed Practical Nurses can apply for a MSL (Multi-State License) can be found on the Florida Board of Nursing website. Although the revised application is not yet available, there is a section with frequently asked questions regarding the Nursing Licensure Compact.
A fact sheet about the process is also available through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
